Erene Mastrangeli: vocals, guitar, piano
Guest: Sabrina Oggero Viale: vocals
Exactly 24 years after her first appearance on our stage — it was December 14, 2001, when Franco Lucà invited Erene to open for a well-known guitarist — Erene Mastrangeli returns to FolkClub with an intimate and emotional concert, to present to the audience of her hometown her latest acclaimed album "Loveshine" (2023), praised by international outlets such as American Songwriter, Americana Highways, and Guitar Girl Magazine. Alongside songs from "Loveshine", Erene will also perform classics from her repertoire and — as a delightful preview — some unreleased tracks from her upcoming project, currently in the works. A musical journey that, starting in Turin, circles back to Turin enriched by over two decades of experience, exploration, and poetry. On stage with Erene will be special guest Sabrina Oggero Viale, an established jazz singer from Turin, who will contribute precious vocal harmonies at selected moments of the concert. Erene’s return is full of meaning, taking place in one of the venues that supported her very first steps as a songwriter.
Born in Turin but a Brooklyn, New York resident for the past quarter century, Erene is an artist with a magnetic voice, refined songwriting, and a personal, original style that blends Italian canzone d’autore with the soul of Americana music. Her music has been described as “enchanting, sincere, timeless” by the international press, and Jake’s Take magazine has hailed her as “the Italian Joni Mitchell.” In "Loveshine", Erene explores the many facets of love — from personal intimacy to social commitment — with meaningful lyrics, elegant arrangements, and a voice capable of stirring deep emotions. Her career is rich with prestigious collaborations: she has worked with Brad Roberts (Crash Test Dummies), Peppino D’Agostino, Daniele Sinigallia (Tiromancino, Niccolò Fabi) — who also produced Loveshine — Rudolph Vernaz-Colas, Pia Tuccitto (songwriter for Vasco Rossi), Merel Bregante, and has performed with artists such as Matt Cusson, Dolche, Bernice “Boom Boom” Brooks, and Jann Klose. Her concerts have brought her to iconic venues including Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room, Minetta Lane Theater, Knitting Factory, CB’s Gallery, and The Bitter End in New York, as well as The Saxon in Austin, and stages in Nashville, Baltimore, San Francisco, Frankfurt, Rome, Bologna, and Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. In the United States, she has represented Italy at numerous institutional events, including Republic Day celebrations at the Italian Consulate in New York, the launch of Expo Milano at the United Nations, and a special performance for New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Her unique rendition of the Italian national anthem deeply moved audiences and the press, who dubbed it “Erene’s Anthem.” In addition to her concert career, Erene is one of the very few certified teachers of the Lichtenberger® vocal method in the United States, with students from across North and South America. The FolkClub concert is a unique opportunity to experience live this brilliant songwriter who, despite having traveled the world, maintains a profound bond with her Italian roots.
