Ilaria Pilar Patassini: voice
Simone Sansonetti: guitar
Andrea Colella: double bass
Released in March by Parco della Musica Records, “Canto Conte” is the new project dedicated to the songs of Paolo Conte by Ilaria Pilar Patassini — here performing as both interpreter and creator, in collaboration with conductor and arranger Angelo Valori. These interpretations bring to light the underlying melody of the Contian universe while preserving its mystery intact. Paolo Conte’s songs are a country unto themselves, a place with its own constitution, geography, urban planning, characters, climates, and dress code. Quoting one of the lawyer’s most famous songs, it may seem like a “gamble” to inhabit this corsair nation as a leading figure — and through a female voice. Ilaria says: “Paolo Conte’s artistic production is a summa of the arts: song, poetry, literature, jazz, cinema, opera, visual art, and a colonial, retro scent — yet it remains invariably contemporary; I never tire of listening to him. I had wanted to create this project for years. I wanted to give voice and body to Conte’s feminine side, to his more sensual, erotic, playful, and French dimension. In the end, somewhere between recklessness and wisdom, desire won.” In its trio version, Pilar presents the Canto Conte project in an essential and intense form, accompanied by Simone Sansonetti on guitar and Andrea Colella on double bass. A live performance that conveys the richness of nuances, subtle irony, and poetic depth of Paolo Conte’s universe.
